Re: FAQ: Does the machine apply solder paste? Why not?
The process is actually just as easy as it looks like, and he even had to align the stencil manually. (I haven't used this yet, but for reference, this system looks really nice: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=HBWtqZro_fg ). I use a system called Stencil8 and recommend it very highly. I've pasted o...

Re: DIY TinyG controller
This is probably a bit crazy, but could a "distributed" TinyG be mounted on the back of each of the four stepper motors? Turns out it can: https://hackaday.com/2016/06/01/mechaduino-closed-loop-stepper-servos-for-everyone/ 8021411464076148485_featured.png This does a lot more than just &q...

Re: Better nozzle with auto change?
You can change the switch setting in the job, just make sure the machine is not moving. Actually this is not correct... I got burned really badly here, and I could recall the pain but not the exact issue -- until just now. It is not enough to simply make sure the machine is not moving. I thought so...

Re: Better nozzle with auto change?
I'm talking to the TinyG makers about changing settings on the fly. Basically they should make a temporary copy of the eeprom to memory Yeah, it already does this; it's stored in nvObj_t defined in config.h. and on command, use and change the ram copy instead of eeprom. Currently reads are from the...

Re: some camera advice/findings
I've been having very good luck with this by using the HSV color space. Actually I don't think HSV had anything to do with it... you covered up the curves with a flat disc to hide the curves! :) I'd like to see the before/after shots of your HSV manipulations without the green disc in place. I trie...

gas for extending solderpaste print-to-place time?
Okay, I know this is a long shot and maybe this isn't the most appropriate forum, but I didn't really know where else to ask. Is there some sort of gas (nitrogen?) in which solderpaste-printed PCBs can be stored that will extend the amount of time allowed between printing and placing? Obviously the ...

For the record, this was absolutely 100% my fault. In fact, my TinyG has survived several other reckless mis-wiring "events" that should have killed it, so it's something of a miracle it lasted this long. For all my criticism of TinyG's architectural decisions I have to say that the hardw...

Re: Better nozzle with auto change?
Does this nozzle style have any kind of z-max sensor? The one on the Juki nozzles is a real pain, so I'm interested in switching to a different style if it has that and might work better. No, so sensor. I disabled the probing switch from the liteplacer at all, and my last job showed, that it is not...

Alright, I guess I'm the only one around here building ~60 boards per day.JuKu wrote:four jobs a day is ten years heavy production use.

Re: Better nozzle with auto change?
Of course it would. I thought so too, but not in the bonkers TinyG universe. Changing the limit switch configuration requires writing the EEPROM, and the TinyG refuses to do that once the machine has started moving (you'll get this weird "FILE OPEN" error that makes no sense). This is bec...
