Re: Tape Strip Holders

[...] I also finally added a pin for positioning the tape I like the "clip" with the sprocket hole alignment pin :-D Would you consider adding a small flag to that clip which could carry a QR-code for feeder identification? If not, where to put such code? Also I still think that adding so...

Re: Tape Strip Holders

Hey John, nice work - I like it. Thanks for the explanations. Then I realized that they don't need to be connected. So in this version, each side has it's own spring, and therefore can move independently. This will ensure that both sides hold the tape tightly. Makes sense; if each side has their own...

Re: Tape Strip Holders

I don't think $20 for feeders is a good idea. My target is $10 retail per feeder. OK, that sounds more reasonable. When you mentioned the cost of fasteners * 5 + injection molding in your earlier post, I got a bis scared ;-) I used pricing from McMaster, which I'm sure isn't the best price. I haven...

Re: Tape Strip Holders

Hello John, thanks for the update. The new version (with the spacers for 8mm included) looks good. I'd definetely go for a spring; we want these feeders to be reliable and avoid fiddling with rubber bands every now and then... The cost for fasteners (screws, nuts, spring etc.) seems rather steep to ...

Re: Magnetic Nozzle changer, is this a bad idea ?

Hey Pete, from my experience, there are three possible causes: 1. Pressure levels not fully equalized in tubing; I actually modified the pneumatics on my machine to create overpressure at the nozzle - like a little "puff" of air to release the part 2. Nozzles sticky from oil or other stuff...

Re: Tape Strip Holders

Can you provide more information about why you don't like the alignment slots? [...] If your concern is about not getting the maximum number of feeders... You are spot on - I want the option to fit as many feeder lanes as possible. But that is probably not an issue at all, as we could have two vers...

Re: Spring loaded adapter affecting nozzle height calibratio

Hey Jason. I think it's likely the sensing is built into the head / nozzle system. That's what I thought as well. Would be interesting how exactly they do it... Juha's system with double linear movement works OK but consumes a lot of space. I am still looking for a nice way to integrate into the noz...

Re: Tape Strip Holders

The more I think about it, the less I think we even need to have that grid in the rails. Assuming we use QR codes, maybe fiducials and auto setup in software. If we simply stack the feeders next to each other without gaps, machine could simply figure out the location of the next feeder based on the ...

Re: Spring loaded adapter affecting nozzle height calibratio

A bit off-topic:

Anyone knows how Mechatronic's height measurement works?

https://youtu.be/3kkf6bktIHA?t=37s

I am not sure if it is a mechanism in the nozzle or in the "metal" cube they use to determine component height...

Re: Tape Strip Holders

I think the principle is similar to what you suggest Hey Jarekk, I think the principle shown in the video is more the optical measurement and offset / rotation correction of parts - like discussed e.g. here: https://github.com/jkuusama/LitePlacer-DEV/issues/34 I am suggesting something different: W...
