Re: Tape Strip Holders

Laser cutting makes sense, and sheet thickness doesn't matter that much, as long as it is stock material, which means even half mm's. There is some advantage if both sheets are the same thickness. Also, thin steel is cheaper that thick, but I'm nitpicking. OK, I'll continue down the route of laser ...

Re: Tape Strip Holders

Just for clarification - can the clip at the back (right) slide a bit back and forth to accomodate for sprocket hole spacing tolerances in tape (see picture)? Yes, I forgot to mention that the QR tab/pin does slide to allow for small variations in the hole spacing, as you suggested I do. Right now ...

Re: Tape Strip Holders

I've been doing quite a bit of tweaking, 3D printing tests, and then more tweaking. The 3D printing is a little fussy as I need 0.1mm layer heights, and my printer doesn't have automatic bed leveling. But fortunately they're good enough for me to do some testing and discover issues. Here is the late...

Re: Tape Strip Holders

Hi everyone, I've had a busy week at work, so it took me a while to write a response. Here is a list of the things I still need to address: A place to add a QR code or other form of identification Fiducial marker (questions below about this) Better tape alignment (explained more below) I also have s...

Re: Tape Strip Holders

Thanks. I welcome ideas and suggestions. Position pin is interesting but as you know it's small part and easy to lose and break. It's good consider if that pin is necessary. The pin part is clipped into place when you assemble the strip feeder. Once installed, it would take some work to remove it as...

Re: Tape Strip Holders

I think I'm getting pretty close. Today I fixed a few small issues I found by making a prototype. I also finally added a pin for positioning the tape: Position Pin.PNG The magenta part should clip in place and provides the alignment pin that I had on my 3D printable version. In addition, it helps ho...

Re: Tape Strip Holders

Also, I suggest to turn the screws by 180° The nut that is in the drawing right now is a low-profile nut, which I originally chose because I was planning on having a indentation on the other side for the nut. However, even the low-profile nut is thicker than the head of the button head screw. In or...

Re: Tape Strip Holders

I did some more work this evening. The first image shows the bottom. Here you can clearly see the two springs that allow each side to be tight against the bottom of the tape. You can also see that I now have just two spacers. Version 5a.PNG Here is a close-up of the springs: Version 5b.PNG I can't m...

Re: Tape Strip Holders

For both spacers and springs I'd recommend finding a Chinese vendor on eBay or Aliexpress that has something close to what you want and then ask if they do custom. Thanks Jason. I did a quick search for threaded spacers, and indeed I was able to find a much less expensive source. Springs I think wi...

Re: Tape Strip Holders

I don't think $20 for feeders is a good idea. My target is $10 retail per feeder. When I calculated the costs of the hardware I knew I had a problem and needed to change the design. My post was to let people know where I'm at, show the problem I'm currently working on, and get feedback or ideas. I u...
