Error when homing...

Hi Juha,

it's been a while that I fired the Liteplacer.
I have a new projet board to place so I updated to the last SW release and fired the Liteplacer on.

When I press the "Home XYZ" button it works as expected, but when I just use the "Home" button, it first homes correctly but then chokes on going to the cam home target and the connection to TinyG is lost.
I then have to reset the TinyG to get connected again (pressing "Connect" is not enough).

I tried to revert to the previous SW release to not avail. Same behaviour (that I never witnessed before).

I changed nothing to the machine since the last time it worked.

Please advise what to do.

Hi again,

and also replying to myself...

With the "software limits exceeded" error message in mind I just had a look at the TinyG error codes and Gcodes and found something related to "soft and hard limits".
So I just checked how the tinyG was set and sure enough the soft limits switch was set. I then tried to disable the soft limits ($sl = 0) and it now just works as before.

Juha, is that mode the normal way of working ? That is soft limits disabled.

Looks like your machine size is values are bad. If I'm right, other values might also be off, so proceed with caution.

I have no idea what might cause that. Have you done some significant changes to your computer?

Hello,
Im having similar or the same problem as above:
- if I Home from "Home" command button - error shows - see screen shot enclosed - re-homing request is repeated endlessly..
- if I home from XYZ it works fine.

Short answer: send text $mt=300

Long answer: Wen motors loose power, the accurate position is lost. On the other hand, motors use power when idle. There is a timer on TinyG that turns off the power after a period of inactivity. The software reads the timer value, and when the timer expires, asks for homing. The above command sets the timeout to 5 minutes (300 sec).

Please send text $$ and send the result to me, either by email or post here. (That command sends all TinyG internal settings to log window in human readable form.)

For some reason, the mt command didn't take, the log still shows "[mt] motor idle timeout 2.00 Sec".

Here are two ways to ask for the value and set it:
