Hi Spikee,

Did you ever end up playing around with the ball screws and linear rails?
I noticed that the smallsmt VP-2xxxHP machines use ball screw and linear slides.

The ball screws look to be 20mm lead, so should be good to get some reasonable movement speed.

Looking about the place aliexpress have some reasonable priced Hiwin linear rails and there are many ball screws to choose from. The question is what lead would you need when using steeper motors to still get good accuracy/movement resolution? It seems that the machines from smallsmt use AC servo motors, not steppers.

Also, the feeder system for the small smt systems is quite nifty, not auto, in that it doesn't just advance the feeder when a part is removed from the tape, the movement is called from the program, but nifty in that there is only one actuator needed for each bank of feeders which cuts the cost of the feeders down quite a bit. The cover tape tension gear is located a bit far away from the tape opening though, if you watch the video of loading a tape, quite a few components get wasted while loading the tape.

I think if I was in the market for a $10k pnp one of the vp2xxxHP machines would be very attractive, however for what I want to do with it it would take a long time to pay it off!

To me it looks a lot simpler to assemble a machine like this using ballscrews and linear rails and also reduce moving components in that the motor is directly coupled to the shaft as well as less noise? and less adjustments due to belt wear etc.

Now I just want to be clear, I am not putting the liteplacer down in any way, I think it is a great kit and produces a great little PnP, I am just a bit of a perfectionist and like to think everything through to the nTH degree before committing one way or another. I think it could be how I got into this mess in the beginning

Some part numbers to look up:
ball screw, c7 20mm lead Hiwin 4R20-20S2-DFSH-800-0.05
Linear rails Hiwin HGH15CA

I have a liteplacer, it is alright however needs some greater advancement to be extremely valuable.

It is and will be utilized for collecting models. The additional 500-1000 euro would not be an issue.

I have tried my CNC machine at high speeds and the outcome is high rehash capacity of <0.01mm.

The thought is that the machines are doing 90% of the exactness work, the vision doing the last 10 %.

Medium to top of the line pnp machines additionally utilize these sorts of rails and ball-screws.

The develop may even end being less expensive than the current light placer mechanics (as it needs loads of parts and bunches of gathering work).

This isn't generally gone for the diversion producer network however more for the semi-star clients. What's more, yes I'll simply do my own thing and post the outcomes here.

For the semi-star world there isn't much choice:

go star and get the M10V and burn through 20000 euro, go the China course and get for ~10000 euro.

The china course can work out ... or then again not and when it is broken in 3 years you are most likely screwed.

Vision but is going for a ~3000-4000 euro value point which is alright. However, is the extent that I can see not open source and the specialists are kinda fiddly.

This appears a decent center way which should be possible for around 1000-1500 euro.
