Trouble with VAT number

Hi,
I've been trying several times (earliest in July) to register at the online shop, but the system systematically tells me that the VAT number of our (international research) institute is invalid.

That's rather surprising since we've been using this number for well over a decade to place orders from France and Germany (we are in Spain).

However, I'd prefer to continue with private emails since our VAT number is obviously something I don't want to publish on a public forum.
